Come and see us at the Norfolk Show!

City College Norwich has something for everyone at the Norfolk Show with a huge array of activities for visitors.  Big screen Wii games, mobile climbing wall, fine dining, construction craft demonstrations, puzzles and quizzes, dance and music, catwalk shows, nail art, flower arranging and gardening are just some of the attractions for the public to enjoy.

If you are looking to get active there is the challenge of the College’s climbing wall, staffed by Outdoor Activities students and staff.  For those who prefer to keep their feet on the ground, why not challenge your friends to large screen Wii games?  Look out too for our Computing students who will be inviting you to try out games they have created and to vote on your favourite.

If testing your knowledge is more your style, have a go at our Sixth Form Centre students’ puzzles and quizzes on “This day in history” events, working out which MP is the odd one out, and a range of mathematical puzzles.  There is also a “Nice or Nasty” psychology test.  To help you wind down after all of that, enjoy performances by A Level Drama students and take in a display of work from the recent Art, Textiles and Photography exhibition held in Zavvi.

Students from the School of Creative Arts will also be putting on shows for the public’s entertainment, with live music – ranging from original compositions and songs to latin, jazz and contemporary tunes – and a mix of dance pieces from the recent production of Once Upon A Time.  In addition, student Jake Bacon will be doing live caricaturist drawing.

There will be plenty of other opportunities to see students putting their vocational skills into action, including live demonstrations of  brickwork, carpentry, plumbing and electronics from School of Technology students.  Mechanical Engineering students will also be demonstrating a CNC lathe, which they will be using to manufacture a spinning top and wine bottle stop.

Elsewhere, students from the School of Hair and Beauty Therapy Industries will be offering nail painting and nail art to visitors.  Students from the School of Foundation Studies will be showcasing some of their small enterprise initiatives, with badge making, flower arranging and Progressions horticulture students creating a garden within the Flower Show area.

Hotel School students will be serving breakfast, lunch, afternoon teas and dinner to over 1,000 visitors in the Norfolk in Harmony marquee.  Celebrating the Hotel School’s championing of locally sourced ingredients, look out this year for the tractor inside the marquee and a film of farming through the ages.  Also on display will be a cake replica of the East Anglian Air Ambulance, made by local chef Tom Taylor, to mark the 10th anniversary of the service.

Dick Palmer, Principal, City College Norwich said: “I am looking forward to another fantastic Norfolk Show.  The Show is a great chance for the college to share with the wider community the full range of talents and skills of our students.  Both students and staff have worked really hard in preparing the college’s stands, which promise to be bigger and better than ever”.
